Free Guide: Your First Guitar Lesson

Welcome to guitar!

I’m hoping that you find as much love for this instrument as I did back when I started, and that it becomes a way for you to unwind, and have fun playing your favourite music.

Your first couple guitar lessons, if you start right away with a teacher, will likely have a few things in it that seem less interesting, but are important.

Fortunately for you, those things are quick and easy to learn.

If you’re willing to self study, I’ve put everything together below so you can get through them as fast as possible.

In this video…

  • You’ll learn about the parts of the guitar

  • How to read a chord chart (the box diagrams people teach you how to play chords with in books or online)

  • How to play the 9 starter chords that will get you through hundreds of songs

  • How to read sheet music (at a basic level) for guitar

  • How to read tablature

  • How to start playing basic melodies

  • What types of accessories you might need for guitar and when to consider them

Feel free to use the time stamps to skip around to the part that’s most relevant for you and your needs, and consider bookmarking this as a resource.

If you’re ready to practice the chord shapes and the melodies from the video, I’ve put together a guide that shows the 9 basic chord shapes all on one page, 10 different melodies to try out all in one place, and a quick reference guide for guitar related accessories you can check as needed.

And if you’re looking for a teacher, click “sign up” here or in the top right corner of the page for a free lesson to see if we’re a good fit to work together

Have fun!
